AM Smoothie Routine

Several years now I ritualistically awaken to prepare myself a breakfast smoothie in my Breville blender (hoping for a Vitamix one day). A day without it is like going without coffee, which was exactly the purpose for it to begin with - cut loose my dependance to overrated, overpriced coffee concoctions. I do however use double strength home-brewed tea in place of juice or water to get my much needed caffeine kick.

For a while (two years while) I stuck with a strawberry, banana, chocolate, peanut butter combination. The chocolate came from a hemp protein powder and the peanut butter was natural, so it was a "healthy" indulgence.

I have now graduated to a vogue green smoothie. And until I get that wishlist Vitamix, the greens I use have to be supple (unlike the popular kale) so I opt for baby spinach but any leafy green would be acceptable. The result is a creamy, frothy and satisfying start to my morning with good conscience nutrients.

Ingredients:
  • 1 banana, frozen
  • 1 cup pineapple, frozen
  • 1 cup fresh leafy greens
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened coconut milk
  • 3/4 cup brewed tea (such as green)
  • 1 scoop protein powder (I use Spiru-tein Vanilla)
Method:
Place all ingredients in blender and puree until smooth. Enjoy immediately! Makes 4 cups.
